| From an email on 6/14/2004: still working at
Qualcomm's IC division, almost quit to go work in Shanghai, but got
pulled back in the end. Still working on my never-ending Ph.D.
Been doing a lot of traveling this year; 2 weeks in China in January
(vacation), 2 weeks in Spain in Feb (vacation), 2 weeks in New Zealand
in April (vacation), and another week and half in Korea and Japan
(work). Will probably go to a few more countries in the latter
half of the year. New Zealand was amazing. The landscape was simply breathtaking. Nowhere can you stand in a rainforest and be looking at a glacier, or float through a cave illuminated by thousands of glowworms, or watch two oceans converge in a blue-green ribbon. In between "wows" and "ahs", I paraglided from snowy peaks, jetboated through canyons, went up the Remarkables, luged down a mountain, cruised around in a fjord, raced on an America's Cup yacht, abseiled 330 feet underground, jumped off a cliff, climbed a waterfall, hiked up a glacier, hiked up an active volcano (Mt Doom in LoTR), hiked through a rain forest, and hiked/swam/crawled through 3 miles of cave. It was incredible. Note from Mayfield: Doesn't this make you tired just reading it?!?!?!? |
