The Twenty-Second Almost Annual Advanced Chem Alumni Picnic (TSAAACAP) will be Saturday JULY 10th. As a reminder, mark your calendars for the following dates -- July 8, 2000, July 7, 2001, and July 6, 2002. If you notice it is always the first Saturday after July 4th. So now you know when to come for the next mole of years. The 1998 party had 51 attendees with the "old timers awards" going to Dave Applegate, from the class of 1983.
Rita is still teaching 7th grade math in Glen Ellyn. She is beginning to think about retirement…in 2003. Our Siberian Husky, Sterling, continues to be a continual pest. Just like having a baby again but with lots of fur and big TEETH. Rita's father is selling the family homestead and moving to a retirement village in the summer of '99. All of his kids and families will be helping with that process this summer in Indiana. It is amazing what one can accumulate in 85 years. Rita is also becoming a Beanie Baby collector of sorts…so if you have any good ones that you want to sell (or just give to her) email her at RitaMayf@aol.com. This July Ty is coming out with a Beanie Baby MOLE….I say about time. I hope it's birthday is June 23 (you know 6.02E23). Anyway I will be the first to buy one at my local Beanie store.
Michelle will graduate from Iowa State in Ames on the morning of August 7th. This will make her dad very happy as the college tuition bills will finally stop. However at 5 pm that same day, she gets married and the bills for that are making college look like a bargain. So at the party there will be a big bucket with a sign that reads "Help pay for Michelle's wedding" on it and feel free to make large contributions. I know some of you remember when she was born (we had a lottery in class to guess the time and weight) and several of you even babysat for her. She has already bought a house in Ames with Wayne, the future son-in-law and is working part-time for the city government. She is very happy in Iowa and may never come back to Chicago again!!! Email her at Mich95@aol.com with wedding congrats.
Mary is now a SENIOR at DGS and part of the class of 2000!!!! She has had four different jobs this past year and has learned much about retail sales and the food industry. She is going to be babysitting full time for the summer again and enjoys the fact that the kids have to go to the pool, movies, and shopping on a regular basis. She is beginning the old college search routine this summer, so if any of you have the perfect school for my "Miss Social" be sure to pull her aside at the party and do the sales pitch on her. Just be sure the school has lots of cute boys, is in the Sprint PCS network calling area, and is cheap (remember poor old dad). You can email her at Marbear246 @aol.com
I continued with my previous year assignment of one period to work with staff on computer usage and one period to work with the new teacher mentor program. So I only taught three classes - 2 AP Chem and 1 AP physics. The computers were less time consuming this year due the fact that the district hired someone to help Mr. Wiemerslage and me with the load. However for 1999-00 there is only one section each of AP Chem and AP Physics, so I will be teaching Soph level Honors Chem again. I am looking forward to that…they have so much excitement about learning chemistry still and they don't get Senioritis !! During the summer of '98 we went to Lake Tahoe to see Mr. Tilley and sail; visited Yosemite Nat. Park (very beautiful); bought a new air conditioner (joy of home ownership); worked at school a few days on computer stuff; and relaxed. In July we went to Kentucky Lake and sailed for a few days…actually it rained most of the time and we sat in the boat and went shopping. And in late August we went to Minnesota sailing and had Michelle and Wayne meet us there. The weather was great and the boat was very nice. This summer we are going to time-share a 35-foot Hunter sailboat on Lake Michigan. It is docked right beside the planetarium and we are looking forward to this new adventure. My classes this year were very good. Actually had TWO girls in AP Physics…both going to be great engineers in about four years. We competed in the ROBOT contest for the third time and this year finished SECOND in the State. It was so much fun this year but lots of hard worked for about four weeks. Check out the pictures on http://physics.csd99.k12.il.us and click on the ROBOT link. You can also check out the rockets, lasers, and mousetrap cars while you are there. The chess team finished 26th in the State and second in the West Suburban Conference. This year Mr. Novak, Mr. Hisgen, Mr. Cohoon, Mrs. Springer, Mr. Pines, and Mr. Jaystrab all retired from DGS. In the next five years about 50% of the faculty will be leaving….including me….in 2004. (Note: Mary says that I should explain the return address labels…my wife gets about 100 of those a week from charities wanting donations and according to Mary I am a "cheap moron" for using them…don’t you just love teenagers. Just pretend they say Mr. Mayfield.)

A big MOLE WELCOME to the 32 new alumni from the class of ‘99. You now have to do something newsworthy so that your name will appear here next year.
J U L Y 10th We will provide sandwiches and some big containers of lemonade and iced tea. If someone will bring a bat and softball we could go over to Hillcrest and have a game after we eat. The old alum will beat the new. We should have enough doctors in the group to handle the injuries and enough lawyers to handle the lawsuits. I will have a volleyball and badminton sets. Let the fun begin at 4:30 p.m., food at 6:00 p.m. and concluding when you all leave.
This year we will have the ever-popular "Moleburgers" and chicken ala mole. So everyone bring salads, fruit, casseroles, or vegetables. We will have a few brownies and maybe some ice cream. If you have a favorite ethnic dish bring it. Last year we had some really interesting and good things. If you can't cook then bring pop, snack stuff or go to Dominick and buy something good.
Please come if at all possible. How about a large turnout from the class of '74, '79, '84, '89, '94 and '99 for the 25, 20, 15, 10, 5 and 0 year reunions??? Can you believe it -- 25 years....the class of '74 was my first full year class. If you can't come, at least call, email, or write to me beforehand so I can pass along info to other members of your class.
